The Eastern (NZ)

The Eastern bring backpacks full of road songs, battered acoustics, banjo and fiddle, doghouse bass, foot stomps and heartbreak. They throwdown like they mean it, like it’s all they know how to do ‘cause they do and it is.

Averaging over 200 shows a year, The Eastern’s self-titled debut album was released in 2009 and debuted straight into the top ten of the New Zealand indie charts. Constantly on tour, The Eastern have played all over New Zealand and beyond, from Gore to Nashville, Shirley and Sydney. They have toured with Steve Earle and the Old Crow Medicine Show and opened for everyone from The Jayhawks to Jimmy Barnes.

The past year saw The Eastern perform four national tours, a tour of the United Stages, as well as a clutch of radio sessions on Radio New Zealand National, Kiwi Fm, b-net, Newstalk ZB, and spots on TV’s channels One and Three. The upcoming year holds more of the same, a new album in the New Year, more touring, beers to drink and hearts to break.
